Tom Thorp is an award winning saxophonist and composer. A writer of both jazz and contemporary classical music, he is known for his musical versatility, as a multi-instrumental session musician, Jazz soloist and composer/arranger. He has performed across Europe with artists including Doves, Ocean Colour Scene, The RainBand, Black Grape alongside work with international orchestras and theatre companies. His works have been shortlisted for the Presteigne Festival Composition prize and the John Dankworth Composition Prize and he was recently a grand finalist in the 2016 Taichung International Saxophone Competition. He is the founder of jazz-fusion quintet Mercury and a member of the Hot Brew Collective and fusion super group The Endangered Species Band. He will be releasing a new album in 2017 with his Chamber/Jazz crossover project The Taka Ensemble who recently premiered a new suite, commissioned by Howden Minster, East Yorkshire.
