Artist call out: Noise Orchestra project

Developing Noise Machines that translate light into sound.

Noise Orchestra and Brighter Sound are looking for artists to take part in a research and development project, to road test and trial new ‘Noise Machines’.

Noise Orchestra are Manchester based sound art duo David Birchall and Vicky Clarke. They are developing a series of electronic NOISE MACHINES that translate light into sound. These machines are synthesizer units such as drones, delays and sequencers that include light theremin circuitry.

For the next six months Noise Orchestra are partnering with Brighter Sound to undertake a research and development project to test and develop the machines with electronic musicians and interdisciplinary artists.  Our study question is …

“How can light-noise synthesizers expand the creative possibilities of using light and gesture in performance and music making”

For the first stage we will be looking at the sonic features of the machines to see how we can improve them. We are putting together a crack team of Manchester musicians to road test our machines. We have a few limited places left for the first two focus groups / workshops. If you are into synths / drones / beats / rhythms / electronics music get in touch at
