Duncan Beiny aka DJ Yoda is no ordinary scratch DJ. His seminal How To Cut & Paste series showcased a tongue-in-cheek mixing style that prompted Q Magazine to declare him “one of the ten DJs to see before you die”, whilst Hip Hop Connection voted him “one of the top three DJs in the world”.
Trail-blazing into the world of the audio-visual he has pioneered a new art form, using cutting edge technology that he has been instrumental in developing, to scratch and mix visuals on top of his DJ sets in clubs.
From 15 to the 19 Sept, DJ Yoda will be leading a 5-day intensive residency for musicians, vocalists, songwriters and visual artists from across the UK. Wall of Sounds – produced by Manchester based Brighter Sound and hosted by iconic music venue Band on the Wall – is a year long programme of activity that supports the creative and professional development of artists at the beginning of an exciting career in music.
Brighter Sound’s Director, Debra King said “DJ Yoda will bring an added world of audio-visual invention to this residency, creating opportunities for those who bring the visual aspect to live music as well as the players. This is something that we can’t wait for, and something new and original for the venue and for Manchester.”
We will be launching tickets for the event alongside the call out for applications for the 13 places on Fri 11 Jul. The deadline for applications is 5pm, 4 Aug.
Previous residencies have seen over 150 applications for the 13 available places from the most exciting emerging professional talent in the country and have been led by The Unthanks and Snarky Puppy
