We’re delighted to welcome Barry Hyde, frontman of North East band The Futureheads for a one-off masterclass at Sing City.

Barry Hyde has been working as a professional musician since 2002, he has released five albums and has over 100 songs published. He played over 800 gigs in his 13 years as frontman of The Futureheads including extensive American and European touring, an uncountable amount major music festivals and high profile support gigs with bands such as Foo Fighters, Oasis, Muse and The Pixies. Exploring post-punk, new wave and pop music, The Futureheads were among the best of the UK’s “angular” movement which also included Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party. After great success the band called a hiatus as each member felt found it interesting to explore creative outlets away from the band.

Barry has since become a prolific teacher of music and songwriting working in schools, colleges and universities around the North East. He also is embarking on a solo career and looks forward to playing gigs and releasing his debut solo record ‘Malody’ in 2016. Barry was also one of the founders of Split Festival in his hometown of Sunderland. He is a huge advocate of his local music and arts culture and is involved in many different projects.

The masterclass is presented in partnership with Generator as part of their Take Note programme and is supported by Youth Music.  It’s completely free and open to young people aged 13-25.  No experience is necessary.

The session will give young songwriters and producers the opportunity to learn about techniques, views and influences of experienced artist Barry Hyde as he demonstrates to attendees how he writes and records music.  This masterclass is essential for anyone looking to gain an insight into songwriting and production or develop their existing skills.
