This July, Anna Meredith leads Brighter Sound’s Artistic Directors Series, collaborating with a group of young and emerging female musicians and multi-disciplinary artists during a four-day residency at the Museum of Science and Industry. On Wednesday 27 July, Anna and the residency participants will premiere new work created during this residency, live at a special Science in the City Late.
Over four intensive days, Anna, alongside her long-term collaborators guitarist and composer Jack Ross and visual artist Eleanor Meredith, will work with a group of talented young women to create original material inspired the Wonder Materials: Graphene and Beyond exhibition at the museum.
Winner of Scottish Album of the Year award for Varmints, it’s no wonder Anna has been described as “one of the most innovative minds in modern British music” (Pitchfork). Her music straddles different worlds of contemporary classical, art pop, electronica and experimental rock and has been broadcast on Radio 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6.
“There’s no right or wrong way to respond to anything,” Anna says, “a book, a painting, or something scientific or mathematic… I can’t wait to see what we all come up with.”
The group will perform a multi-sensory work during the adults-only night at the museum. The night that celebrates Science in the City week, will feature a number of activities and treats, including graphene-inspired jewellery making, 3D-printed chocolate, insect-sushi and the Wonder Material exhibition. The bar will be open all night. See you there.
