Brighter Sound celebrates International Women’s Day with a showcase evening at Band on the Wall featuring performances from some of the many talented musicians we’ve worked with over the last twelve months.

Over the course of an evening, we’re delighted to welcome back Wall of Sounds Beth Orton residency musicians, including Natalie McCool, Becca Williams, Elizabeth Vince, Avital Raz, IONE, Gina Tratt, Jote OsahnKayla Painter, Janileigh Cohen, Vanessa Forero and Cally Youdell.

Through our commissions, residencies and Here Come the Grrrls programme we’re celebrating, profiling and inspiring female musicians.  Our recent focus on women in music has proved highly successful in shining a spotlight on female talent and the challenges facing women in the industry.  Since its launch eight months ago, Here Come the Grrrls has engaged with nearly 500 young, emerging and professional musicians.  We’re excited to present a one-off showcase as part of Manchester’s Wonder Women festival and International Women’s Day.

This event is part of Wonder Women, Manchester’s annual feminist festival. From 3-13 March 2016, we celebrate the women’s movement born in our city through film, art, music, walking tours, gallery takeovers, comedy and debate, asking how far we’ve come in 100 years – and how far we have yet to go.
