Introduction to Music Facilitation

• Have passion for music and an interest in supporting children and young people
• Are keen to develop new skills that could help you in your future career
• Are aged 18-25 (or up to 30 if you identify as disabled or have additional educational needs)
• Aren’t currently in higher education
• Are a non-graduate (you may have started a degree but not completed it, or not studied at higher education (university)
• Currently live at a Greater Manchester postcode

This programme is designed to support people who, for whatever reason, face difficulties accessing opportunities in the creative arts sector. This could be due to a specific lived experience, any caregiving or parenting responsibilities, your education, or something else.

The project is free to attend. To help you take part we’ll cover:

• Travel expenses using public transport within Greater Manchester
• Access costs - for things like disability support, translation or childcare, or additional travel

Bursaries of £150 are also available to people who:

• Need to take unpaid leave from work to take part
• Work in a freelance capacity and will have to turn down work to take part
• Are in low income employment
• Receive Universal Credit, or another job allowance, as their main income

As Brighter Sound isn’t an educational establishment, or an authorised provider of non-taxable bursaries, all bursary income is taxable, and should be recorded and reported to HMRC in the normal way. If you’re already registered as self-employed, income should be included with your records. If you’re not currently self-employed, details on how to register (and any other queries about reporting this income) can be found on the HMRC website.

Sessions will take place at the Brighter Sound office (Green Fish Resource Centre, M4 1LE) between 6-8pm on the following Wednesday evenings:

• 30 October
• 6 November
• 13 November
• 20 November
• 27 November
• 4 December

In our application form we'll ask you some basic details, along with the following questions.

1. How does music feature in your life?
   Let us know if you play any instruments or sing, if music has helped you in any way, and anything else you think is relevant.
2. Why do you want to work with children and young people through music?
   Let us know why you’re interested in helping others and supporting young people through music. Why music and not anything else?
3. This is a training programme. What skills do you want to develop through this programme and why?
   Think about all the different skills you’d like to develop with us, and how you see yourself using them in the future. What different jobs would you like to do at the end of it?

You can either answer these questions in writing, or you can record yourself. If you do this, you'll just need to include links to your video or audio recordings. Have a read of our Top Tips for Applicants for more information on how to answer these questions.

The application deadline is Friday 11 October, 11pm.

We encourage you to submit your application before the deadline but if you need a bit more time we can stretch an extra day or two. You’ll need to let us know by Thursday 10 October if you’d like an extension.
