We’re excited to announce Manchester MC Bugzy Malone as our special guest artist at this summer’s I Live Hip Hop residency for young musicians.
The last twelve months have been outstanding for Bugzy, gaining plenty of attention and racking up over 50 million views on YouTube for his freestyles and raw music videos. His latest EP, ‘Facing Time’ reached number one on iTunes, kicking Beyoncé off the top spot. Bugzy describes ‘Facing Time’, as ‘The best thing he’s ever made’, releasing it on his own independent label ‘ill gotten records’, which he set up to potentially sign local artists from Manchester and the North of England.
With a sold out UK Tour, ‘Best Breakthrough Act’ GRM Daily Rated Award and two Mobo nominations under his belt, it’s no wonder he was picked as ‘Hot for 2016’ by BBC Radio 1Xtra and ‘One to Watch’ by NME magazine. He’s already performed at Glastonbury, with slots booked at all the major festivals this summer, and he’s just signed a deal with JD Sports, where his clothing designs will be distributed to over 50 stores across the UK.
Bugzy is taking time of out of his busy schedule to drop in to our I Live Hip Hop Summer School, joining young aspiring artists as they collaborate to create new hip hop, grime and urban music.
I Live Hip Hop is our strand for young and emerging hip hop, grime and urban musicians, MCs, singers and producers that launched in March with an incredible day-long workshop at The Wonder Inn with Kendrick Lamar.
We’ve now teamed up with Urban Development to deliver not just one day, but a whole week of free workshops, masterclasses, recording sessions and performances. Under the guidance of established producers, lyricists, MCs and musicians, young artists aged 14-19 will work together to write and record tracks, collaborate with other creatives and build on skills and repertoire.
It will take place from Monday 1 – Friday 5 August at Band on the Wall live music venue in Manchester.
Application deadline: Monday 25 July, 5pm
I Live Hip Hop Summer School is delivered by Brighter Sound and powered by Urban Development’s Urban Artist Summer School – a national initiative supporting talent development in urban music. It will take place from Mon 1 – Fri 5 August at Band on the Wall (25 Swan Street, Manchester, M4 5JZ).
