We are absolutely delighted to have won the Promotion of Talent and Leadership Award at this year’s Manchester Culture Awards – in recognition of our work supporting young and emerging music creators across the city.
The judges’ commendation said:
“Brighter Sound specialise in talent development for young and emerging artists in the city, building the future of the city’s music scene. They empower young people to be bold, take risks and be innovators in their own music careers. We were particularly impressed by their focus on promoting female talent.”
Our Director Debra King said:
“It means so much for Brighter Sound to win this award. We’ve worked in this area for many years, and recognising and developing talent and creativity is something we passionately believe in, alongside equality of opportunity.
I would like to say a massive thank you to the inspiring young people, artists and practitioners that make our work possible, as well as our brilliant partners across the city. I’m so proud of the team and was delighted that so many of us could be there to accept the award – this really reflects the way we work together.
As we approach our 20th year we are more excited than ever about the future of the city’s music scene and look forward to playing a central role in the development of new and emerging artists and leaders.”
Following a public call-out in June which saw over 300 nominations made across twelve different award categories, the winners were announced at a special ceremony on Sat 9 Nov, hosted by Jennie McAlpine and Ria Meera Munshi.
Councillor Luthfur Rahman, Executive Member for Skills, Culture, and Leisure, Manchester City Council, said:
“This was another phenomenal year for the Manchester Culture Awards, both in terms of the number of entries and also the standard of those nominated – which was quite simply off the scale and world-class.”
Now in their second year, the awards recognise the huge contribution culture makes to the city’s economy, and its role in helping to make Manchester a vibrant place for people to live, work, and visit. Well done to all of the nominees and winners – what a fantastic celebration of culture in our home city!
