We’re looking for talented and creative musicians, of any genre, from Greater Manchester to take part in a major new commission to commemorate the hidden history of the battle of Manchester Hill, which took place in Northern France on 21 March 1918.
Delivered in partnership with Manchester City Council and Manchester Histories, the project is part of the centenary commemoration of World War 1, and will lead to an immersive, atmospheric and poignant performance of new music, poetry, spoken word and digital projection at Manchester Cathedral in April 2018.
If chosen you will:
- Take part in an intensive four-day residency (3-6 April) directed by eminent Manchester musicians Stuart McCallum (The Cinematic Orchestra, The Breath), John Ellis (The Cinematic Orchestra, Lily Allen), Luke Flowers (The Cinematic Orchestra, Corinne Bailey Rae), singer-songwriter Liam Frost and composer Katie Chatburn.
- Work together to devise, compose and perform new music that reflects on the events of 21 March 1918 and how they impacted on communities and families at home.
- Showcase the new work at a major public performance in Manchester Cathedral on Friday 13 April 2018.
Applicants must be:
- An emerging musician, who writes/creates their own music, and is open to collaboration. All applicants must have at least 2 years of experience of working at a professional or semi-professional level
- Aged 18+
- From or based in the Greater Manchester area
- Able to commit to all dates associated with this project:
Residency – Tue 3-Fri 6 Apr (10am-8pm)
Production day – Thu 12 Apr (10am-5pm)
Performance – Fri 13 Apr (pm rehearsal and 8pm performance)
If chosen, you will be able to claim travel and expenses up to the value of £175.
