Emily Kiely graduated in Music from the University of Manchester, specialising in jazz saxophone performance and electro acoustic composition on Ableton. She has performed at various venues in Manchester such as Band on the Wall with MSC Big Band, Matt & Phreds, Academy 3, Fuel and at People’s History Museum in May with a Santoor player as part of a postgraduate protest composition protesting the restrictions made on women in Iran and Persian music. Emily is currently composing music and spoken word for her band LagaRuna.
“I’m really looking forward to working with other musicians and artists to create new pieces and gain new experiences. I find this theme of protest very gripping as my final composition at uni was a protest piece, highlighting the oppression of women in Persian and jazz music. I have been writing some more spoken word protesting about the state of the planet and would like to explore this further too.”
