Sarah is the lead singer, songwriter and keyboard player for Joan the Wad. Named after a torch-bearing queen of the piskies, the band started organically and became a hothouse for Sarah’s compulsive songwriting habit. A spellbinding amalgam of sumptuous vocals, broken brushed rhythms, pulsating guitars, loops and samples; think Joni Mitchell, Radiohead, Cocteau Twins, Jesca Hoop. Truly an emerging act, with debut studio recordings currently being finalised, the band’s reputation has been steadily growing through gigs in and around Manchester, including Head for the Hills Festival, Night and Day Cafe, and live performances for Acoustic Amnesty, FabRadio international and others.
“I absolutely love the process of creating my music: I just try and tune in to what I see, hear and feel around me, and work with it. I’m really excited by the idea of an immersive, collaborative experience, and having a time limited project with a large degree of immediacy will be a new challenge for me. I’m looking forward to celebrating musical sisterhood and I can’t wait to learn from the expertise of Gwenno and Rhys.”
