The Vanity Project sit somewhere between pop clowns and cabaret cult leaders. Using a loop pedal and far more instruments than it’s wise for two people to play, the duo incorporate monologues, costumes and the occasional dance routine into their live show. Their songs weave strange worlds of despicable dilettantes and hallucinogenic soft drinks. Though surreal and twitchy, their sound is laced with irresistible grooves, infectious hooks and satiric wit.
“We are hoping, in the short term, to grow our fanbase by developing creative release strategies for our singles and learning how to get the attention of the right people in the industry. We’re most looking forward to learning about how best to work with or do our own PR, use social media and get our songs playlisted. Longer term though, we hope to gain advice on how to sustain a career in the music industry. One of the pitfalls for musicians at this stage in their career seems to be that their desperation to be successful means that they seize opportunities that may be harmful to their long term career. We’d hope our mentor could guide us to making wise decisions in terms of labels, management and contracts in view of a lengthy career rather than a sharp rise and fall.”
