We’re delighted to announce Nadine Shah as a brand new ambassador for Both Sides Now – our three-year women in music initiative.
Nadine will act as a public figurehead for the programme – helping us to advocate for change around the roles, representation and recognition of women in music, particularly those in the North of England.
Nadine gained critical acclaim for her latest album ‘Holiday Destination’ (81 on Metacritic), including a 2018 Mercury Prize nomination, and is known for passionately campaigning for equal rights across the music industry. She joins our existing Both Sides Now ambassadors Beth Orton, Anna Meredith, Meklit and ESKA who work with us to support the aims of the programme.
To mark the start of her new role, Nadine will lead the first of our Both Sides Now residencies in Newcastle. Delivered in partnership with Generator, the residency is open to emerging female music creators in the North East.
Successful applicants for this special studio residency will work with Nadine and producer Ben Hillier to develop their writing skills, musicianship, vocal technique, songwriting approach and production awareness in one of the North East’s best independent recording studios.
The residency will run from 20 – 23 August inclusive. The deadline to apply is midnight on 5 August. For more information and to apply click here.
Nadine and Ben will also host a free one day masterclass on Friday 24 August. Register your place here.
That same evening we’re delighted to have Nadine joining us for our Making Waves event – part of The Hexagon Experiment at the Great Exhibition of the North. She’ll form part of a panel of leading scientists and artists discussing careers and creativity, before a live show from some of the best up-and- coming talent in digital music.
