Check out our favourite photos from the Disruption x Emergent showcase which saw three composers from two commissioning opportunities share their new work (there’s plenty more to see on Instagram too).
In 2017 we announced our second run of the Young Composers Commission, an exciting opportunity for two young composers to write an original body of music in any genre in response to the theme “Disruption: What role do systems play within music making and how can we disrupt them?” The two selected composers Johnny and Carmel each received funding, support and mentoring to explore their practice, as well as ask questions of performance, audience and composition. Their new work debuted at this early evening performance at Band on the Wall.
Also featured on the lineup was Drake Music‘s Emergent commission winner Ben Lunn. Emergent: A Music Legacy is a programme designed to open up new opportunities for disabled musicians to develop their work. Ben’s new work was dedicated to the disabled victims of the Nazi operation Aktion T-4 and Tory Austerity.
