Sing City revamped for autumn

Brighter Sound is excited to launch a re-vamped Sing City for autumn 2016.

Sing City is our in-house collective of young and emerging composers, producers and musicians. After three years of successful weekly drop-in sessions and live nights that has seen the group work with guests such as Blossoms, Field Music and Natalie McCool we’re moving into a new phase.

From September, we’ll be running in six-weekly themed blocks, each culminating in a live night in the Band on the Wall venue. A fantastic new collaborative team will be leading Sing City, each bringing a different and exciting specialism to the mix.

In the first block starting mid-September, alt-pop artist Elizabeth Vince explores music for games. From reinventing classic theme tunes, to creating original soundtracks for game play, she unlocks exciting ideas for musical creation in the interactive world.

After half term, we connect to Manchester’s programme as European City of Science, turning our focus to the science of sound. Tomás Pochino and Jote Osahn experiment, create and record new music with sounds found in science, the natural world and technology.

The six-week blocks can be booked in advance online, with new members always welcome. The culminating live nights are an open platform for any young bands or solo artists looking for a stage to perform.  Extra masterclasses and workshops are scheduled regularly, offering the chance to hear from current artists, producers and programmers working in today’s music industry

Sing City is free and open to musicians under the age of 18 with an interest in song-writing and composition, collaboration, live performance and just generally finding out more about the world of music. It is all about collaboration and experimentation, so if you have an idea for a theme  – or for a new name for the re-vamped sessions – share it with us.
