Soundpaths is a brand new smartphone app that allows you to get out and explore your local area in a completely different way – through music and sound.
Designed for running or walking, Soundpaths will take the user on a journey through Moston and Harpurhey, accompanied by an original piece of music by composer/producer Yoni Collier which will reflect and celebrate the area, and its communities.
If you live in North Manchester, we need your help to create content for the app. As part of your Covid-safe daily outdoor exercise, we’d like you to go outside and take a walk along a section of a new, specially created new route, through the parks and along the streets of Moston and Harpurhey.
As you go, we want you to listen to the natural and urban sounds around you and make recordings on your smartphone (up to 3 minutes) of what you discover. We also want you to record your voices (1 or 2 sentences) at home or outside talking about, reflecting and celebrating some of the interesting landmarks on the route. Then, please just send us the recordings.
Visit the Soundpaths website for everything you need to know, including online and
downloadable maps, directions and how-to guides.
If you have any questions please contact Tim Chatterton at email@example.com.
Soundpaths is part of MINDSCAPES – a project that explores the impact that our environment has on our mental wellbeing. Working with SICK! Festival and supported by Dutch Culture and The Kingdom of The Netherlands, we have commissioned Dutch composer Yoni Collier to compose the music and bring together the recorded sounds and voices that you send in. The app will be launched in Moston and Harpurhey in the Spring of 2021.
