We’re looking for new members for the Swan Street Collective 2019 – a musical ensemble of young disabled people.
If you’re 13-21, from Greater Manchester and have a musical flair – this is a great opportunity to explore ways to make music, meet new people, and have fun!
This free project will be run by a team of professional musicians led by Kenton Mann from Music Unlimited. Family and carers are welcome to stay and observe sessions.
As a Collective you’ll work together to create new music using a variety of instruments, and in a variety of styles and genres.
Sessions will involve experimentation, improvisation and composition. You’ll also work with Drake Music Lab North to adapt and develop brand new accessible instruments for the Collective.
The project will finish with a special performance in the Barbirolli Room at the Bridgewater Hall.
Dates and times
All sessions will take place on Saturday afternoon (between 1-2.45pm) at Band on the Wall in Manchester city centre.
March (taster sessions)
Sat 9, Sat 16, Sat 23, Sat 30
May (development and composition)
Sat 4, Sat 11, Sat 18
June (arrangement and rehearsals for performance)
Sat 1, Sat 8, Sat 15, Sat 22
The final performance will take place on Sun 23 Jun at Bridgewater Hall.
Throughout March, you are welcome to come along and try a session to see if it’s for you – although we’d really like you to attend as many sessions as possible.
The last four sessions in June are rehearsals to prepare for the performance. We would ask that you are available for all of these dates.
