Meklit

Meklit is an Ethio-American vocalist, songwriter and composer known for her electric stage presence and innovative, deeply personal Ethio-Jazz songs. Meklit is Chief of Program at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. She is a National Geographic Explorer, a TED Senior Fellow, and a former Artist-in-Residence at Harvard University. She is also the co-founder, host and co-producer of Movement, a new podcast and live show telling stories of music and migration.

Her collaborative project for Brighter Sound in 2016, My Music My Manchester, brought together over 30 young musicians from the city to write, arrange and perform a concert at BBC Philharmonic’s Media City Studios, exploring place and identity.
