Things I Wish I’d Known is for any young creative aged 13-25 with questions about the music industry that need answering.

Held monthly on Zoom, each meet-up will be led by guest artists chatting about:

  • Different career paths you can take
  • Mistakes to avoid before you make them
  • Everything else they wish they’d known when first starting out

This month is all about how to get into radio or radio production, with DJs and radio producers Lil’ Minx and Katbrownsugar. Maybe you’d like to become a host. Maybe you’re more interested in what goes on behind the scenes. Come and find out either way!

About the artists

Lil’ Minx - otherwise known as Fran Hayfron - has played at many venues including warming up for the ‘Queen of Neo-Soul’ Ms. Erykah Badu at The Royal Festival Hall in 2022, Worldwide Festival in Sète, ‘We Out Here’ Festival (2019 - 23), Warehouse Project and also, as a proud member of the Eves’Drop Collective. Growing up in North West London with the pop of the day alongside her father’s Ghanaian Highlife, Jazz and soul/R&B records – Lil’ Minx took all this goodness to heart, then learnt all the words and all the proper dance moves. She moved to Manchester and kept on dancing. Dancing led to DJing and then to radio production - including “The Hot Pot Show” with Mr Scruff & Treva Whateva (Key 103, Samurai FM, Juice FM, Virgin Trains), Electric Souls Sound System with The Unabombers (XFM Manchester & Giant Step NYC Radio) and also working for the highly acclaimed production company Somethin’ Else in London, working on music shows such as The Essential Mix (BBC Radio 1).

Katbrownsugar is a DJ and radio host from Manchester. She has played worldwide and has been running her own radio station for the last three years, specialising in hip-hop, new soul and alternative R&B.
