This week 10 artists converge in Leeds for a week of creativity and collaboration led by Wu-Lu, “one of the most interesting names on the experimental hip-hop scene” .

During the 5-day residency they’ll move between live rooms, recording studios and DIY set-ups, trying new things with new people.

Wu-Lu says “Together we’ll build a sample bank of unique sounds and styles that we’ll use to produce something unexpected.”

Free tickets are now on sale for the final showcase on Friday 15 March from 8pm. Expect an evening of new music that spans, embraces and throws out every genre in the book.

suboptimal logic

suboptimal logic describes their music as evolving and messy. They’re inspired by movement of bodies, rhythms, and sounds. In their music they’re drawn to simple sounds, and enjoy using randomness, probability, and noise. They like to engage with the whole signal chain of music, from designing sounds, arranging and mixing music, building speakers, and dancing. Their latest album “obvious music” is described as lullabies for dreamers and hard-of-sleepers.

Yumé NET

Yumé NET creates coruscating and otherworldly musical landscapes, crafted from a meld of modern jazz and experimental electronic music. As our lives move more and more online, the boundaries between the natural and digital world become increasingly blurry. Yumé NET is interested in interrogating these boundaries. Whether it's in her research as a bioelectronics PhD student developing electronics that interface with the human nervous system, or in her music that explores what it means to be human in an increasingly online society. Yumé sets out to tell stories about the very personal and very human aspects of her life (platonic love, trans joy, identity, bigotry, community) and how technology has transformed them. Tender but heavy, calculated but full of love, her music invites the listener to join her in exploring what lies between and beyond the 0s and 1s.

Ku-Ro bent with his hands on his knees looking into the camera. He's wearing a long-sleeve orange shirt and black trousers on a white wall background.

Ku-Ro

Ku-Ro is a multidisciplinary artist (Music, Acting and Film) based in London. They have an avant-garde approach to their music which gives them limitless ideas, and allows them to venture into new sonic territory. Their debut project, “iO” was released in 2023. It’s a display of the inner and outer dealings they have faced, are facing and will face. Their chaotic yet controlled compositions channel the raw energy and allow their emotions to roam free without censorship. With the addition of vocals, this project also presents a combination of brutal honesty, responsibility and openness. Their second EP “O!” is the sonic alternate to the first, the B-Side, which brings a playful, theatrical and quirky element to this production heavy display of vulnerability and the pursuit for serenity.

Hang Linton

Hang Linton is an interdisciplinary artist based in Leeds splicing avant-punk and breakbeats. After cutting their teeth in Berlin across multiple projects and collectives, Hang has landed on home soil and is ready to make his mark. Their art is a rebellion against clean aesthetics, inspired by past experiences, changing global events and the ugliness in the world. It's not pretty - but it's important, and Hang will make sure you enjoy the ride. Armed with a setup of a sampler, synths and relentless physicality, Hang bends your ear around the counterculture sounds and movements that have shaped him.

kaoti wearing a black corset, baggy tracksuit shorts and chullo-style hat with pointy ears. Their upper torso and arms are covered in various tattoos.

kaoti

kaoti, a small creature, most probably made on a different planet and rekindled their way to earth as a water-bender, often trying to find their place in the human race (plot twist - there isn’t one) has always been a lover, a drama sovereign and fantasy-illusionist. They have been songwriting since they were a tiny seed, but found their multidisciplinary throne through weaving movement, rhythm, wordsmithery, and aesthetic visuals. They make philosophical, political and sometimes romantic beep bops that transcend the realm of genre. Think colourful, cyber, busy glitchcore, bouncy popping candy sounds with a dash of grungy rap. Having survived the depths of escapism of inebriation and lots of near-death, their full phoenix moment means they are here to take their life back with vengeance. To all aliens, crazies and phoenix-in-training, please assemble.
