Music producer, DJ and immersive audio artist SCAPA first joined us on our Afro Energy residency in 2023. Before this, she saw herself exclusively as a bedroom producer. But working in the studio with 11 other like-minded musicians made SCAPA realise how much more capable she was at collaboration than she thought.

“Through residencies like the one I did with Brighter Sound, I realised how helpful and inspirational it would be working with other people.”

Fast forward a year and we commissioned SCAPA to help bring her Afro-Electro audio-visual project Nsɛbɛ to life. Widening the net for collaboration, SCAPA worked remotely with five artists based in Accra, Ghana to create six tracks and visuals that combined sound, memory, and movement. She also threw a new challenge into the mix, working with Echo Chamber to incorporate spatial audio, creating an immersive experience for live audiences. We were thrilled when the piece was picked up to tour at Sensoria Music & Film Festival the following year!

SCAPA has consistently hit the ground running with her new-found skills, and is constantly developing her practice artistically, but also as a member of the wider music community. In 2026 we brought her on board for our Change the Record Retreat to explore how leadership can be reimagined in ways that centre care, community, and collective growth. Already working to address the gender imbalance in music through Shifting Spheres, the Retreat gave SCAPA new practical ways to challenge the industry and make music safer for artists. Continuing her collaboration streak, she and another attendee plan to set up their own support space for female engineers.

SCAPA has come a long way from exclusively being a bedroom producer. Collaboration is at the heart of everything she does today. From helping set up ECA Records to joining Modern Sky for a cross-cultural music exchange in China, SCAPA continues to make new creative connections across all walks of life.
